Arizona Travel Montage | Spring Break 2018

My Sorority Room - College Dorm Tour.pngThis spring break I traveled to Arizona State University to visit my friend Camden! I stayed on the ASU campus from Monday to Thursday. Below is a video montage of my travels. Featured are videos from all around campus and the Tempe, Arizona area. Tempe is right outside of Phoenix, and it was nice and warm all week while I was there. I enjoyed sitting pool side almost everyday and got to see some cool snakes they had in one of the campus buildings. Before I left, I climbed Camelback Mountain. It was way more difficult than I expected. I’m now laying in bed back in Kansas sore, sunburnt, and wishing I was still in the 80 degree weather.

Swimsuit Haul 2017 | Pieces of Emily

With summer comes summer fashion. This week I want to focus on swimsuits I’m wearing this summer in 2017! Here are two bikinis, and a one piece I will be sporting to the pool or beach. Don’t forget to bring you sunglasses or hat too!

Crochet Style Bikini

Crochet Bikini swimsuit 2017
This bikini came from Target aka every girls favorite place to get swimsuits. This piece has a crochet style that is currently very in. This style was made more famous and popular by Triangl swimwear. With this target bikini you are able to get the same trendy look without paying the incredibly high Triangl prices.

Structured Bikini Top

Kate Spade Bikini set 2017
Kate Spade also taking influence from Triangl with this structured light pink bikini top. With thicker straps, a metal zip in the back, and monochromatic look Kate Spade is able to stand slightly apart from the competing structured top look. It’s a very trendy style in a pretty pink color looking great on many skin tones.

Black One-piece

Black one piece swimsuit
This black one-piece swimsuit is a must have look this summer with scandalous one-pieces making a huge comeback. These are great for any Instagram post.
Thanks for checking out my swimsuits! I hope you enjoyed this post and follow my blog for more! Have a great summer and make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen!

Birthday Haul | Pieces of Emily

Welcome to Pieces of Emily, a new series where I show you different fashion pieces I have in my closet. For this post I’ll be showing off new pieces I got for my birthday last weekend. I am really excited about these new items that I can start wearing for the warmer weather.
These outfits will help give you an idea for the upcoming summer trends. Featured below is a romper and plaid top that include soft geometric designs. These simplistic, light, black and white pieces will be seen a lot in the upcoming months. Another pattern trend will be flora, as seen in the last top. Flora was getting big last season, and it will be carrying over into these next summer months as well. The flora top is also off the shoulder, which is going to be one of the biggest trends this season.

5 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and we both know you don’t have a gift in mind for that special someone yet. It’s ok! Whether you need a gift for your girlfriend, best friend, mom, or sister here are five ideas for your Valentine’s Day sweetheart…
1. Polaroid Camera

This is a super useful gift that would be worth the investment. With this camera you can capture more moments together. You guys can look back on the photos, and have them to keep forever as your relationship grows. It’s something fun, and a little different from the normal Valentine’s Day gifts.

2. Cute Lushra Glass

These sorority glasses made by Lushra are a cute gift for any sorority girl in your life. You could even buy it to show your big how much you love her this Valentine’s day. It could also be a good gift if you’re just starting a relationship, and don’t want a super lovey-dovey gift. Fill it with your person’s favorite candy or flowers to make it extra special. (Also Lushra is offering 15% off your entire purchase with the code “VDAY17”)

3. Matching Key Chain

Not only does your Valentine get a gift out of this set, but so do you! The key chain could be put on a necklace, bracelet, backpack, or purse. They can have it with them wherever they go, and so can you. You can find this gift on Esty for more information.

4. Meaningful Jewelry

This necklace comes from Estella Bartlett. Her jewelry comes with cute messages or meanings that you can fit to whoever your Valentine is. This makes it more personal and special! Personally, I’ve always wanted one of these necklaces, and think it’d be a great gift.

5. Personalized Book

LoveBook makes customized books for someone you love. You’re able to tell your love story in your own unique way. It’s something that you can keep forever and always look back on. Check out their website for more information.
Well that’s all I have for you today! Hope one of these gifts helped inspire you for Valentine’s Day. Enjoy your holiday, and make sure you celebrate all the ones you love in your life.

My Sorority Initiation

It’s official…I am now a full member of Chi Omega! So long to my days as a new member, and hello to a new beginning in my wonderful Eta Beta chapter. I had such a great weekend with all the lovely ladies I now get to call my sisters. Being a new member was a great experience, and I learned so much. Through this time I got to meet so many new girls and form some pretty great friendships. I am now excited to see what this chapter has in store for me as an official member.
The initiation process composed of four nights. Thursday through Sunday all the new members came to our Chi Omega house to officially join the chapter. The first night was business causal, and I wore a turtleneck dress and leather jacket. The second night was casual, and I wore a simple sweater and jeans.

Night One: Gray and white turtleneck dress (American Eagle), Black leather jacket (Forever 21), Black-riding boots (Tory Burch)
Our last trip to the house we wore the classic initiation white dress. Pretty much every sorority will have new members wear white to the final ceremony to represent purity as the join they chapter. I also had to wear white socks. It was at this ceremony I learned the secrets of Chi Omega. Sorority secrets include the meaning behind chapter’s symbols, colors, and Greek letters. Members are sworn to secrecy, and it’s a very serious matter.

Night Four: White lace dress (Nordstrom)
So while I can’t specify details of each ceremony, I will say they were very moving and meaningful. They weren’t scary or filled with hazing. They brought me closer with my sisters and taught me more about my chapter. This weekend as reaffirmed I made the right choice joining Chi Omega. I am beyond excited for what is to come with all my beautiful new sisters.

The Morning After

The morning after our great nation chose a president. The morning after we chose hate over love. The morning after, I am full of somber, worries, and pain.

I woke up this morning disappointed in my country. I was shocked and heartbroken over the election results, to say the least. I am a firm believer in democracy, and everything this country was founded on. We are the land of the free and home of the brave, yet I now feel neither free nor brave. I fear for the racial minorities, the women, and the LGBTQ in this country. I fear for the progress we have made. But the more I think about it, I get it.
I understand people want change. This country has seen economic hardship, far too much bloodshed, and frustration due to self-serving politicians. Something needs to change, I agree. Now change will come with a Republican house, senate, and president. However, this isn’t the change I wanted for my country. This isn’t the change I want to tell my children about someday. The change that comes from one party ruling over Washington is not democracy, but yet that’s what democracy chose. Through democracy we chose to give it up.
The voice of the white people will be heard. The voice of the men will be heard. The voice of the 45 to 65 year olds will be heard. Except, those are not the only voices in this great American melting pot. We have seemingly forgot about the voices of minorities, LGBTQ members, women, and our youth. There are an estimated 54 million Hispanics (17% of the population), 42 million African Americans (13.3%), and 18 million Asians (5.6%) apart of the United States population. In racial minorities alone, that’s 114 million affected citizens. 114 million people silenced, along with millions of others. They are here too. They matter too.
twitter-tmaI’m not here to fight against Trump and his nomination. I will accept his nomination, just as I hope any Trump supporter would accept if Hillary had won. Nevertheless, what I will not accept is hate, misogyny, racism, and homophobia. This election is a reality check, so wake up America. Wake up and fight for what is right. Putting others down, and thinking you are superior due to the color of your skin, or gender, or sexual orientation is not right. This election shows us just how much progress we have yet to make. It shows how much fighting we have ahead of us, so get ready to fight America. Fight for #BlackLivesMatter. Fight for equal pay and reproductive rights. Fight for gay marriage. Fight for immigration reform. Fight for Syrian refugees. We are all human. We are all equal. Fight for each other, because that’s what this country is about, doing what’s right.
I’m not saying you have to morally agree with all these issues. Everyone has their own belief system and views, I can respect that. Without that there would be no democracy. Although, I know we can all agree on the idea of freedom, the idea that everyone deserves his or her rights. So fight for these peoples freedom, just as you would hope someone would fight for your voice if you were oppressed.
And while things look dim moving forward, I still have hope. I still believe in the values of this country, values of freedom and equal opportunity. We still made progress yesterday with at least 9 states expanding marijuana usage, 4 states increasing the minimum wage, and 3 states creating stricter gun laws. Kamala Harris was voted the first Indian American senator and California’s first African American Senator. Ilhan Omar will be the first Somali-American lawmaker, representing Minnesota in the House of Representatives. Governor Kate Brown from Oregon is the first openly gay person to win an election. Progress is still being made, so keep fighting America.

White Sweater Looks

It’s once again time for fall weather, which means fall fashion! There’s nothing I love more than pulling out my sweaters and changing up my wardrobe. A staple piece I always have in my closet is a white sweater. This is a great sweater to grab and go in. There are lots of ways to dress it up or down, so I thought I’d show you my favorite looks. Here are three ways I love to wear white sweaters this fall:

College Update

Hey all! I’ve been at Iowa State for about three months, and so much has happened! I thought I’d give everyone an update, and show you what I’ve been up to.
Chi Omega has been keeping me very busy. From sisterhoods, to philanthropy events, and socials, I’ve been meeting lots of people and connecting with my new sisters! The other day we went to explore Ames at a local Apple Orchard.
We also had our fall philanthropy, Chi O Corn Dogs, benefiting the Liz Kirke Foundation. This foundation raises money for a scholarship under our late member, Liz Kirke’s name. She was a design student, and Chi O member back in 1985. This scholarship will be given to an Iowa State student in the design program.
While going to these events, and other such as ’90s themed bus party, and Sisterhood Retreats to learn more about Chi Omega, I’ve been taking lots of pictures for the Chi Omega Tumblr. I joined the marketing team for my sorority, and I helped rebuild our website and Tumblr. Check out our new website at , and the Tumblr I run at Working on this team and joining clubs like the Women in Communication Association has really helped me jump into my major.
I’m learning lots, and trying to keep busy here in Ames. I miss home, and my friends like crazy. I hope to go back soon! Follow me on social media (links under my bio on the right) to keep up with all my Iowa State adventures, and for new blog updates.
