Washington D.C. Internship| Summer 2018

This summer I moved my cozy life in K.C. to Washington D.C. I was given the opportunity to intern for PBS, and I grabbed it. Having been raised in a sheltered, privileged community I decided to take the training wheels off my life. I threw myself into a new environment completely solo. I rented an apartment, packed my bags, booked my flight and headed off.

Moving on my own was difficult at times but worthwhile. I’ve been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, and this was truly a push. Navigating the metro and D.C. landscape was empowering (it’s the little things) and I proved to myself I could do anything.

Maybe it was the different time zone or swampy humidity that is leaving me a changed person after this trip. Maybe it was the disappointment of taking an Uber with four 50 pound suitcases to the airport that is leaving me appreciative of the simple thing in life. But I know it was actively seeing the impact my degree can have on this world that is leaving me wide-eyed.

PBS has hired some of the most kind-hearted, hardest workers. Most teams only comprise of seven to nine people which manage a multitude of projects at once. Please support your local station and their constant strive for educational, diverse content. It’s an important, noble fight.

Business Casual Looks 2018 | Girl Boss

Here are the latest business casual outfits I’ve been loving to wear to work. Even in the summer, the office can be freezing, so a mix of warm and cold temperature outfits are a must. I like to mix and match short sleeves with long pants, or a short skirt with a heavy sweater to balance things out.

Arizona Travel Montage | Spring Break 2018

This spring break I traveled to Arizona State University to visit my friend Camden! I stayed on the ASU campus from Monday to Thursday. Below is a video montage of my travels. Featured are videos from all around campus and the Tempe, Arizona area. Tempe is right outside of Phoenix, and it was nice and warm all week while I was there. I enjoyed sitting pool side almost everyday and got to see some cool snakes they had in one of the campus buildings. Before I left, I climbed Camelback Mountain. It was way more difficult than I expected. I’m now laying in bed back in Kansas sore, sunburnt, and wishing I was still in the 80 degree weather.

My chapter, Chi Omega- Eta Beta, just received renovations including new paint, flooring, and furniture. Our house holds 69 women, and we are all super lucky to have such an amazing facility. Swimsuit Haul 2017 | Pieces of Emily

With summer comes summer fashion. This week I want to focus on swimsuits I’m wearing this summer in 2017! Here are two bikinis, and a one piece I will be sporting to the pool or beach. Don’t forget to bring you sunglasses or hat too!

Crochet Style Bikini

Crochet Bikini swimsuit 2017 — This bikini came from Target aka every girls favorite place to get swimsuits. This piece has a crochet style that is currently very in. This style was made more famous and popular by Triangl swimwear. With this target bikini you are able to get the same trendy look without paying the incredibly high Triangl prices.

Structured Bikini Top

Kate Spade Bikini set 2017 — Kate Spade also taking influence from Triangl with this structured light pink bikini top. With thicker straps, a metal zip in the back, and monochromatic look Kate Spade is able to stand slightly apart from the competing structured top look. It’s a very trendy style in a pretty pink color looking great on many skin tones.

Last week was my spring break for Iowa State. Sadly, I am back now but here is a little peak of the fun I had last week. For vacation my family and I went to Bonita Springs, Florida. Bonita Springs is between Naples and Fort Myers. We spent a lot of time at the beach and shopping. Here is a video of my travels and a photo log.

Birthday Haul | Pieces of Emily

Welcome to Pieces of Emily, a new series where I show you different fashion pieces I have in my closet. For this post I’ll be showing off new pieces I got for my birthday last weekend. I am really excited about these new items that I can start wearing for the warmer weather.

These outfits will help give you an idea for the upcoming summer trends. Featured below is a romper and plaid top that include soft geometric designs. These simplistic, light, black and white pieces will be seen a lot in the upcoming months. Another pattern trend will be flora, as seen in the last top. Flora was getting big last season, and it will be carrying over into these next summer months as well. The flora top is also off the shoulder, which is going to be one of the biggest trends this season.
